How to Optimize Your Patio

It’s patio season, folks! It’s finally the warm half of the year where you can enjoy outdoor activities, comfortably. I recently spruced up my patio and have been brainstorming ways to make the most of this underutilized outdoor living space.

List of my ideas if you’re looking for similar inspiration!

what to do

  • Have a picnic

  • Host afternoon tea

  • Cuddle or play with pets (be careful of snakes, hawks, etc. if you let your pets roam the yard)

  • Take a phone call or FaceTime with a friend

  • Workout: do you like to jump rope but have low ceilings? This is your opportunity!

  • Stretch

  • Meditate

  • Sit by the fire — and maybe roast some marshmallows :)

  • Watch sports: use an iPad for a quick & easy option, or connect a full TV if your space allows

  • Play a game: set-up a card table and let the competition begin (be cognizant of wind). I recently found this game which looks so fun.

  • Watch the sunrise or sunset

  • Listen to nature: leaves rustling in the breeze, birds singing…

  • Watch a storm — safely: watch the clouds roll in, listen to the rain and feel the wind on your face

  • Take a nap (don’t forget SPF!)

  • Listen to a podcast

  • Have a fancy breakfast or brunch

  • Work!

  • Have a dinner party: pick a theme or lean into the season by highlighting local produce, flowers, etc.

  • Do a craft: paint your scenery or pick a craft to do with friends (e.g., candle painting)

  • Decorate: take a seat and ponder ways to add flair to your space or switch things up.
